石田貴裕は、自ら収集してきたイメージを題材に作品制作をしています。それは興味が赴くまま集められたものであったり、街にありふれている看板のイメージなど無節操に題材を集め続けています。

石田はこれまで道路の標識、注意書きや看板などを絵画に引用してきました。 それらは描かれたものであり、実際に存在するものの「再現」でもありました。「絵を描くということは対象をある距離から捉え、画面上に再現する行為であり、自分が求めているものが本当にそれなのかという疑問の視点に変化してきた」と石田は言います。本展で石田が提示するのは、フラットな表面の再現行為を行うよりも、対象自体を同じ素材で作成してみるという「対象との距離が消えた絵画」を作った「鉄の構造体」作品です。 今回、鉄の作品と紙の版画作品にも使用しているのはシルクスクリーンです。シルクスクリーンは看板印刷にも使われており、筆跡や手作業の痕跡がなく、 「対象との距離が消えた絵画」を作る上では欠かせない要素と言えます。本展「Steel and paper」は、鉄の上でできることと、そして紙の上でできることの違いを 共通の技術を通じて検証し続けた空間と言えます。

鉄の作品は、注意喚起をテーマとし、あらゆる人の業に対して警告をする作品になっています。正面から作品を観ると半分に切れた文字、色彩と共に様々なメッセージの受け取り方ができる一方で、作品の側面に視点を移すと「do not touch（触れないで）」と注記しています。

多角的な視点で作品を捉えると正面のメッセージの印象が変わっていくこと、距離を取り一度冷静に考える間を持つ事へと注意喚起を促しています。

版画作品では、儚いイメージがプリントされ、形状を留めていられないものを中心に表現しています。そのイメージ同士が重なり合い、具体的であったイメージ図が崩れていく感覚と崩壊しきる直前の状態を印象づけています。美術が可能にしてきた恒久的な美意識と崩れていく美意識、その二つのテーマのアンバランスに取り組んだ作品と石田は言います。

ISHIDA Takehiro’s works invite the audience to reflect and redefine common standards of art and self-expression. The Iwate-based artist consistently collects a variety of raw materials and miscellaneous items that ignite his interests and deep fascination, and experiments with different printing techniques.

This time, he has set sight on two contrasting yet complementing materials - steel and paper.

He presents works that take the shape of square-shaped structures assembled from slabs and pieces of iron combined with sheets of paper. These slabs represent the theme of “hazard”, warning about the negative consequences of human activity. This exploration comes alive as he uses images of common road signs that warn people of danger or hazard, and recreating these signs on canvas.

Curious observers who come close and leer into these structures must do so with extra care. The half-cut letters and colors used convey a variety of printed messages on paper and silkscreen that remind people to be cautious and self-aware. One might see a note to “Do not touch!” when viewed from the sides, which can be seen as the social standard or rule that society may have to adhere to. These overlapping elements give off an aesthetic impression of something that is short-lived, crumbling and on the verge of collapse, a sense of imbalance that ISHIDA has been keen on exploring.

1988年 岩手県北上市に生まれる。2009年頃より創作活動を開始。
2020年 「ミュージアムとの創造的対話03 何が価値を創造するのか？」（鳥取県立美術館）

令和4年度岩手県美術選奨受賞

Born in Iwate Prefecture’s Kitakami City in 1988, and ventured into producing various creative works beginning in 2009.

ISHIDA has been involved with a variety of art-related events and solo exhibition works since 2020 at spaces such as gCRADLE in Aomori City, Aomori Pref., The Junko Museum of Art and the NAKAJIMA ART SPACE, both located in Kitakami City, Iwate Pref., un petit GARAGE in Tokyo, and the Tottori Prefectural Museum of Art in Kurayoshi, Iwate Pref. As of recently, his work has been recognized and awarded by the Iwate prefectural government in 2020; and has also begun showcasing his works here in Miyagi Pref. through birdo space, beginning with "set up" in 2023.
