本展「Peek into the Keyhole - 鍵穴を覗く-」では、ビルドコレクションより、進化するグローバル社会に関連するテーマに焦点をあて、世界の3 つの地域から集まった複数のアーティストの作品を紹介します。

宮城県出身のアーティスト松山隼によるミクストメディア作品「Rubbish（ごみ）」は、フィリピン・マニラ市北方の巨大なゴミ山（スモーキーマウンテン）を記録したものです。彼がフィリピンで行ったフィールドワークで垣間見たフィリピンの社会問題と自然災害の起きた地域の物語を私たちに静かに伝えています。 本展では、松山の著書「Meadow after waves」及びBMLab が実施したプロジェクト「D I SPLACED」記録集と共に紹介します。

岩手県陸前高田市のレジデントアーティストであるハイメ・パセナ２世による「WHERE YOU STOOD STILL」は、陸前高田とフィリピン・マニラの物語に着目した松山隼とハイメ・パセナ２世による展覧会「IMPRINTS」にて展示した作品です。ハイメが陸前高田に滞在した当時、巨大なコンベヤーは、復興の過程を残す「復興遺構」として土台部分の保存が検討されていました。本作は、フィリピン・マニラから来た彼の体験のスナップショットで、かさ上げ工事用の土砂を山から市街地に運んできた総延長3 キロのベルトコンベヤーの土台を、復興の過程と痕跡として描いています。

仙台市在住の写真家・福島隆嗣は、都市のスナップ写真など日常風景を撮り続けています。本作は、2012 年に撮影した海辺の風景で、災害廃棄物の山を背に岸壁で釣りをする人たちの様子をとらえています。

ニュージーランド/ アオテアロアと宮城のアーティストたちによる芸術文化交流プロジェクト「Shared Lines」からは、サイモン・カーンによる作品を展示します。カーンは、これまで、コミュニティ、歴史、食べ物を結びつける様々なパフォーマンス プロジェクトを通して肥沃な土地をリサーチしてきました。食べ物は、個人、家族、地域社会が互いに関わり合う方法の本質であり、彼の作品では、先住民族との関係を言及しています。この一連の本作は、食べ物とアイデンティティの混合性について提示する 3 つのイメージで構成されています。混合ファカパパ（ 家系図） の集合体を形成する中華料理と並んで、伝統的なマオリの食料源について言及しています。これらはニュージーランド/ アオテアロア固有のものであり、場所とアイデンティティを反映しています。

同時に展示する台湾のアーティスト陳昱榮による「METAMORPHOSIS（蛻變）」とともに、これらの作品は未来の扉の鍵穴を覗き込み、私たちが直面する問題を体験し理解するよう比喩的に促します。私たちの社会が徐々に変化していく中で、これらの作品は、「扉を開ける準備はできていますか？」とわたしたちに問いかけるようでもあります。

The future awaits. Are you ready to open the door?

The Birdo Flugas Collection presents “Peek into the Keyhole”. We present a selection of works from various artists from three different regions around the world. Together, they focus on central themes relevant to today’s evolving global society.

“Rubbish (ごみ)” is a mixed-media artwork by Miyagi Prefecture-born artist MATSUYAMA Jun. Here, he documents Smokey Mountain, a massive landfill which once existed in the neighborhood of Tondo in Manila, Philippines.

The artwork implicitly unravels both the social problems and the places hit by natural disasters he has witnessed during his fieldwork in the Philippines. This exhibition is presented together with MATSUYAMA’s self-published book, "Meadow after waves" which includes the documentation of the project he participated in called “D I SPLACED”, conducted by BLISS MARKET LABORATORY.

“WHERE YOU STOOD STILL" by Jaime Pacena II is a painting from “IMPRINTS”, a joint exhibition by both himself and MATSUYAMA, focusing on the stories experienced in both Iwate Prefecture’s Rikuzentakata in Japan and Manila, in the Philippines.

This work is a snapshot of his experience, where he saw a huge conveyor pillar during his stay as an artist-in-residence in Rikuzentakata, The pillar was considered for preservation as a "reconstruction structure”, a 3 km-long conveyor belt that brought earth and sand from the mountains to the city, and that it would represent the process of reconstruction after 3.11.

Also featured is a work from photographer FUKUSHIMA Takatsugu, hailing from of Sendai City in Miyagi Prefecture. He has been taking various snapshots of the city as well as other everyday landscapes. Featured in this exhibition, this photograph is a seaside landscape that was shot in 2012, and captures people fishing on the shore against a mountain of disaster waste.

Lastly, from “Shared Lines”, an art and cultural exchange project between artists from Aotearoa/New Zealand and Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, we will present works by Simon KAAN.

KAAN has been researching fertile ground through various performance projects that connect community, history, and food. Food is the essence of the way individuals, families, and communities relate to one another, and his work references his relationship with the Indigenous peoples. This body of work consists of three images that present a mixture of food and identity. It refers to traditional Maori food sources alongside Chinese food that form a mixed fakapapa (family tree) assemblage. These are local to Aotearoa/New Zealand, and they both reflect place and self.

Together alongside the simultaneous exhibition of “METAMORPHOSIS” by Taiwanese artist CHEN Yu-Jung, these works invite you to figuratively peek into the keyhole into the door of the future, to experience, digest, and understand the issues we all face. As we gradually find ourselves in transition to changes which will transform our society, these works from the Birdo Flugas Collection beg us to ask - are you ready to open the door?
